Whiskey Used As Medicine
Medical properties and uses- Whisky is a powerful stimulant to the heart and arteries and the common nervous forces, and counteracts malaria, hardens the tissues of the lungs, counteracts tuberculosis, or consumption. Taken properly it spreads a warmth all over the body, acting on the brain forces so as to make a person feel positive, buoyant and ambitious. No remedy as valuable in the treatment of low forms of fever as whisky.
It is a good idea to make home-produced cough syrup when you aren’t sick so that you have it on hand when you need it. Save some of the bottles you would generally recycle, like ones for ketchup or salad dressing, to store the medicine. You don’t have to use a top-shelf whiskey to make the syrup, but if you want one with good taste you can use Crown Royal or Maker’s Mark. Depending on how bad your cough is, adults can take 1 or 2 tablespoons of the syrup every three or four hours as needed.
